1967 – Fiat 850 Spider

This 1967 example of the small FIAT 850 Spider belongs to the first series, a model with a special place in the Giugiaro family history: it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7, 1965, the very day Fabrizio Giugiaro was born. added to the collection by Fabrizio during the 2020 Poltu Quatu Classic Concours d’Elegance as a birthday gift to his father.

Born from an idea by Nuccio Bertone and designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the FIAT 850 Spider combined lightness, elegance and a distinctly youthful character.

Its first series featured a distinctive front end with slanting headlights, directly inspired by the Chevrolet Corvair Testudo concept designed by Giugiaro two years earlier, showing how ideas developed on concept cars could successfully find their way into series production.

Presented alongside the coupé version, it completed FIAT’s 850 range and quickly became an international success, particularly in the United States, where it earned the nickname “Little Ferrari.”
