1991 – BMW Nazca M12

The Nazca M12 design model represents the first complete formal expression of Fabrizio Giugiaro’s independent design work, developed with the direct support of the Style, Models and Prototype Departments.

The project draws inspiration from Formula 1 and Group C racing, influences that are reflected in the low proportions, compact cockpit, strongly aerodynamic profile and overall architecture of the car.

Conceived as a luxury GT with a centrally mounted engine, the Nazca M12 combines essential and elegant surfaces with a distinctly aggressive character. The design emphasizes the relationship between the glazed canopy, the low front section and the wide rear volumes, creating a form that appears closely connected to its technical layout.

One of the most distinctive elements is the T-Top roof architecture, formed by two glazed sections above the cockpit, while the upper portions of the doors were conceived to open upwards in gull-wing style.

As a design model, this example preserves the project at the stage in which its proportions, surfaces and principal formal solutions were defined, documenting the beginning of Fabrizio Giugiaro’s independent creative path.
