The EB112 styling model represents a key stage in the development of Giugiaro’s vision for the revival of Bugatti.
Commissioned by Romano Artioli as the basis for a new flagship model, the project led Giugiaro to reinterpret the historic identity of the marque through a contemporary design language. His research focused on some of Bugatti’s most iconic cars, including the Type 55 and the Type 57 S Atlantic, whose proportions and distinctive formal elements became references for a new interpretation rather than a literal revival.
The model gave three-dimensional form to this research, defining the proportions and volumes of a large, prestigious sports sedan while preserving the tension and elegance associated with Bugatti’s historic identity. Its fastback profile, generous passenger compartment and strongly sculpted surfaces established the visual character that would later be transferred to the prototype.
As a full-scale styling model, it documents the crucial transition from drawing to physical form, allowing the project’s surfaces, proportions and volumes to be refined before the car reached its final development.
