2003 – Chevrolet Corvette Moray

Design model
The Moray project, presented for the first time at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, embodies the homage that Fabrizio Giugiaro paid to the fifty-year era of the Chevrolet Corvette, the supreme symbol of the American sports car.

BRAND: Chevrolet Corvette

MODEL: Moray

YEAR: 2003

BODY TYPE: Sports car

CATEGORY: Design model

DESIGNER: Fabrizio Giugiaro

The Moray styling model captures one of Giugiaro’s most fluid and sculptural interpretations of the sports car, developed around the mechanical architecture of the Chevrolet Corvette.

Its name derives directly from the character of its form: long, slender and sinuous, with a profile that recalls the movement of a moray eel through water. The elongated front section, narrow headlights and strongly curved bonnet create a continuous visual flow, while the raised and sharply cut rear introduces a deliberate contrast in volume and tension.

One of the most distinctive elements is the glazed door structure, in which the side window and part of the roof form a single transparent surface. Hinged at the rear, the doors open upwards in a gullwing movement, allowing wide access to the cabin and reinforcing the sense of lightness created by the crystalline upper section.

The removable glazed elements were conceived to transform the car from a coupé into an almost roadster-like configuration, further emphasizing the experimental character of the project.

As a full-scale styling model, the Moray preserves the formal research behind the concept: an exercise in proportion, movement and surface continuity in which the technical base of the Corvette is reinterpreted through a distinctly more elegant and sculptural design language.
