That of imitations has always been a major problem for the recognition of authentic Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO. In 1987, in an attempt to solve the problem, the Chamber of Commerce of Modena commissioned Giorgetto Giugiaro to design a bottle shape that would become distinctive and even trademark itself for the product.
The result was a 100-ml bottle that looks like a spherical-shaped ampoule made of solid clear glass with a rectangular base, the style of which is reminiscent of the flask used by tasters.
The two faces display the label of the consortium of manufacturers and the personal trademark of the single associate. The packaging recalls the historical symbols of this Modenese condiment (the silhouette of Modena cathedral and the vinegar purveryor's barrel) which are repeated as a texture on all the gift-packs.
This bottle, referred to as "Giugiaro's", is the only official bottle for all producers associated with the consortium. It is bottled only after the approval of expert tasters and only by a bottling center specially authorized by MIPAAF and subject to supply chain controls.
