The goal was to create a soft and fully compliant atmosphere, achieved through the adoption of pleasant pastel-colored surface finishes. Spaces experienced by astronauts were differentiated by the overall effect driven by technological paneling (racks, electronic equipment display panels...). Partition walls were knocked down to create larger common areas and encourage interaction, but at the same time "reserved" spaces for individual crew members were better identified through the use of colors and enhanced to provide privacy, sleep phases, and communication with families back home.
