In 2019, Trenitalia bought from Hitachi 19 V250 trains, to renew them, completely redevelop them and use the important technological features the train presented.

The scope of GFG Rail project was to reuse most of the interior components to create an environment which could completely modernize the train and make it more suitable to Italian taste. The challenges were to refurbish the interiors to better suit them to the high-end image of high-speed trains, to develop a completely new bar area, and to use graphics exclusively to generate a completely new feeling for the exteriors of the train, previously created by another designer.
