Punto

Punto

Fiat
Two-volume car with single-volume connections
After the Panda and the Uno, another exploit from the Turin-based designer, the latest in a line of models which have entered the history of European motoring.

BRAND: Fiat

MODEL: Punto

YEAR: 1993

BODY TYPE: Citycar

POWER SUPPLY: Combustion

CATEGORY: Production car

DESIGNER: Giorgetto Giugiaro

Giugiaro was responsible for designing the coach-work, while the interiors are courtesy of the Fiat Styling Centre. The Punto is a two-box car. But, in terms of visibility and the packaging of mechanical units, it's for all the world like a single-box model. The line from the bonnet over the windscreen and down to the tailgate is styled to respond to the most severe prerequisites of aerodynamic efficiency. There is no trace of a jutting edge to be found and the overall impression is one of roundness. Viewing the car from different angles, the shape alters considerably, but the effect is always pleasantly wrap-round. Giugiaro was inspired by the idea of a pure, natural form, something resembling an oval. The priority was to convey a sense of quality through crisp shaping and neat style features. In 1995 Punto was nominated “Car of the Year”.
