FIAT invited ANFIA associates to build their own interpretations of the Cinquecento concept on a single standard exemplar. Giugiaro restyled the standard car without altering the mechanicals, dimensions and cockpit layout and developed a single-box coupé that converted into an open car. The design was at once highly innovative and extremely practical, ready as it was for mass production at relatively low investment costs.

This was a unique opportunity for Giugiaro to introduce this out and out sports car to a suitably competent audience. In order to transform the Nazca C2 into a spider the designer modified the rear end by restyling it. The side and the rear windows were removed so that the car open, but if rain comes quick re-assembly of the windows provides prompt shelter. The door glasses are stored in the large luggage compartment. For effect, a large rollbar painted the same colour as the coachwork lies flush with the upper part of the side. The engine compartment, which was hidden in the previous version by the rear window, is now apparent. It has been redesigned to emphasize the already remarkable design of the BMW 12 cylinder engine.

The car it has come up with is a hybrid with electric traction, built with recyclable materials on an aluminium body. The car converts into a roadster; which is why it is especially suitable for leisure time driving. The prototype Cinquecento Lucciola is based on the same ID Cinquecento, a static model developed for the 1992 Turin Motor Show. The ID Cinquecento was the fruit of research carried out by Giugiaro as part of Fiat's initiative to pay homage to the 500 myth, a "classic" in the history of cars, by inviting ANFIA associates to build their own interpretations of the Cinquecento concept on a single standard exemplar. Giugiaro restyled the standard car without altering the mechanicals, dimensions and cockpit layout and developed a single-box coupé that converted into an open car. In collaboration with Seat's Catalan Styling Centre, Giugiaro developed this flowing, wedge-shaped saloon and also its different versions. The highish belt line is a family feature. To the rear of the roof, a slender arch curls round the third side window and along the luggage compartment, conjuring up a sense of dynamism reminiscent of a robust, safe sports car. Albeit curved, the front of the Cordoba reiterates the Toledo and the new Ibiza in its horizontal light cluster-radiator grille with wraparound parking lights. The 2.0 litre ABF engine in this model was also used in the third-generation Golf GTi and the first Ibiza Cupra.

The soft-top - which can be pulled back easily by hand and fitted into a special compartment behind the rear seatbacks - is made of three-layer canvas and has a built-in plastic rear window which can be removed and replaced. In a more sophisticated version, the operation can be performed automatically by pressing an electrical control by the driving seat. The Cabrio is streamlined to optimize its drag coefficient and minimize external airstream turbulence. The rear lights it could be nothing of not horizontal.
